Montessori at Home

What Does a Montessori Home Look Like?

  • Children have space to move freely and be independently with minimal adult interference
  • Children respect others and their environment (adults do too!)
  • Children are motivated intrinsically rather than by rewards and punishments
  • Play materials are limited, displayed in order at the child's level, and cared for by the child
  • Children participate in the care of the home with age appropriate and managable tasks
  • Discipline is administered gently but firmly focusing on natural and logical consequences
  • Children are provided ample opportunities for movement and physical activity
  • Children are encouraged to experience and engage with nature frequently
  • It is not a replication of your child's Montessori classroom, but a space of comfort and community
